Description

"Bode's Galaxy", or Messier 81 (M81), is a spiral galaxy about 12 million light-years away in the Ursa Major constellation. Named after its discoverer Johann Elert Bode in 1774, it's notable for its nearly perfect spiral arms. It's part of the M81 Group, which includes 34 galaxies such as the Cigar Galaxy (M82). M81 is a popular target for astronomers and astrophotographers due to its size and brightness.

M81 contained a visible supernova, SN 1993J, discovered on 28 March 1993 by F. Garcia in Spain. At the time, it was the second-brightest type II supernova observed in the twentieth century.

60 x 300 second exposures, exactly 5 hours of total integration.
